"The Idea of a Libertarian Party"

I thought this paper would be interesting to my fellow Libertarians, and I don't see that it is published elsewhere on the web. It was a piece in the 1972 "Libertarian Handbook", whose cover and info I have also reproduced. Sorry to provide only images (for now) instead of real text. Anyone who wants to transcribe, be my guest :)

The cover is (obviously) reproduced above, then filenames for the pages are below to be clicked on. First page is the inner flyleaf of the pub; the rest are the pages of the paper.

Another pic of the West Point on the Eno Mill
I volunteer her a couple of days per month. We couldn't mill last Saturday (a belt kept slipping) so I contented myself with taking pcitures. Mills must be some of the most over-photographed buildings in the world :) I love opening the wooden shutters on the windows! Posted by Picasa

  Beagle Meetup
Saturday Bill and I took all three dogs (Bill is in front with Pete the collie-thing, Ed, and Kate peeking out) on a walk through the woods near NCSU with some fellow beaglersPosted by Picasa

  Mixed messages!

I got a bunch of gold T-shirts to distribute among fellow libertarian activists (we've decide to jump on the 'colored shirt' bandwagon and show up at council meetings, etc in gold), and a fabric paint-pen, and wheedled two fellows into marking up one of the shirts. First, Jim Capo (visitng from Greensboro) beautifully lettered the libertarian pledge on the shirt, then Steven Leboeuf, who used to cartoon/rite for the NCSU student newspaper, drew the 'crack baby Lesta'. He did ask for constraints, and I said 'no vulgarity'... not sure if this measures up, but it does make a statement. Posted by Picasa

  Bill and I
Here's one of those silly 'hold the camera up in front of yourself and snap' pictures, taken while Bill and I were walking the dogs near our home.

I am wearing one of what my friend Laura calls my 'dyke hats'. Posted by Picasa

  Where there's fire...
... there's smoke! Barbara Howe, Bev Wilcox, and Phil Jacobson, a few of my LP peeps, in another smoky back room hatching plots (actually working out details for the LPNC convention). Nice woodstove! Barbara and her family are building their own house; pictures at their website http://www.warmoak.com/Posted by Picasa

Guys I was fascinated by in high school

I saw the name "Weinstein" in some news-context today, and it got me to thinking about a guy I had a serious 'crush' (gosh that's an old-fashioned word:) on as a freshman in HS (he was a senior), Matthew Weinstein. Naturally I looked him up. And naturally that started me thinking about another fascination from those days, Hamza Walker, who was in my class.

OK, so guys I was attracted to are middle-aged farts with careers. Not sure what Matt does, but Hamza at least is an up-and-coming art curator, which is cool. He is also still very attractive.

From the pictures and the names I will let you guess which is which ;-)

PS: my spell-checker wants to make "hamza" into "hamas" which I suspect would amuse Hamza very much.

  More on solar-storage batteries

Bill again moving one of the solar storage cells. It was a tremendous amount of work for him to move all twleve cells, plus the two cases. These batteries (Solar One) will, I hope, be serving us for years to come. It's a great feeling to have them in the house powering everything we need (and many things we don't need, as Bill often reminds me:) Posted by Picasa

  New solar batteries

Here's Bill moving a cell of the new solar batteries (each CELL weighs 200 pounds, and there are 12 of them, in two cases) using a lift/maneuver device he built for this purpose. Posted by Picasa

I let go of the law, and people become honest.
I let go of economics, and people become prosperous.
I let go of religion and people become serene.
I let go of all desire for the common good,
and the good becomes common as grass.
When the will to power is in charge,
the higher the ideals, the lower the results.
