dogs, dirt, and music
Gardening and colliething pups...... do not mix well. It's fun to have a pup hanging out with you while digging, but when he thinks the hose needs to be attacked whenever it sprays, and the sage you just planted just happens to be in the way... or he thinks it'd be 'fun' to chew up the peat pots you just planted with zuke seeds, well, that's not-so-much-fun. But it's still such a novelty to have a playful youngster around. Oh, and while I was yakking on the phone and hanging laundry, he ran into the neighbor's yard and started tearing through the newly-planted patch of potatoes. Whoops! I smoothed that over with a nice chat (I'm sure I drove the guy crazy with my over-caffeinated enthusiasm for gardening:) and a half-dozen eggs of various colors and hues from the hens, but still... PUPPIES! Ah, I'm sure I will be sad when he -stops- being a pest, so I should enjoy it while I can.
'Shrooms:Speaking of gardening, I got a Oyster Mushroom kit from
Fungi Perfecti, and it's fruiting madly now. I'll have to remember to get some pics. I will harvest and cook up the first batch this evening or tomorrow. I hope to get into more economical cultivation, but thought it'd be good to start simple, thus the kit.
Local music:We went to hear the Durham band
Future Kings of Nowhere in Raleigh last night. Second time we've seen them; they did a nice long double set and every song was excellent. Adorable drummer (of course:) Every song depressing, but also strangely light-sounding in an odd TMBG-sort-of-way.
