  Today's dumb statement ...
...comes from a short paper (I'd say 'mercifully short', but it wasn't; not enough, anyway) on income redistribution:

http://www.irp.wisc.edu/publications/focus/pdfs/foc123f.pdf

That the Social Security Act and the Social Security System have the term "security" in them is also evidence in support
of the position that our income transfer system is attempting to promote economic security.

I guess that's like the evidence that the 'War on Drugs' is attempting to promote drugs. or war.

Hmm. He may have a point.

But seriously. What it is evidence of is that those who were trying to sell SS (for whatever reason) know that 'security' is considered to be a Good Thing by the people they were trying to sell it to. What a dork.

I let go of the law, and people become honest.
I let go of economics, and people become prosperous.
I let go of religion and people become serene.
I let go of all desire for the common good,
and the good becomes common as grass.
When the will to power is in charge,
the higher the ideals, the lower the results.
