Call me Mrs. Miller

I've been spending a couple of Saturdays every month learnign to mill grain at the
West Point Mill on the Eno, a water-driven stone grist mill. They have a large horizontal set of stones for grinding, but they also have (and mostly use) a Meadows Mill from the 40s (also run off the waterwheel) which uses stones set vertically. Meadows Mills is still in operation and sells 'tabletop' versions of
stone burr mills with 8" stones.
I am
so going to have one of those puppies! I could run it off the diesel engine Bill set up for backup power generation, or an electric motor, or (if we ever move to place with a stream) waterpower. Bill is trying to talk me into the idea of making everything ourselves and just buying stones ... and looking at the prices of the sifting equipment I'm inclined to agree that there are a lot of pieces he/we could make.
