Small world!
A most wonderful thing happened to me this weekend.
Background: of all the people I've met and cared for and lost contact with, DH was definitely in the top three. We were housemates in a rather bizarre situation in Kansas at a time when we were both going through tough times. DH was one of the (many) women I met in my 20s who showed me that women were my natural friends and allies in this world and not some alien creatures who I would never fathom.
OK, enough background. This weekend I attended a Beagle Meetup with Kate the freaky beagle. The Meetup was at the dogpark in North Raleigh. Now, I don't really care for dogparks, and I care even less for North Raleigh, so my chances of being there were slim. I walked across the big dog area on the way to the small dog area (I could have easily walked around it - how horrible if I had!!!) A woman called out to me while I was passing - I recognized her but couldn't 'place' her (I'm sure you know what I mean - like seeing someone from work in the grocery store...). Like an idiot I tried to brazen it out, looking for clues by asking which dogs were hers. After that got cleared up, I practically threw myself at her and halfway burst into tears (please don't ask how a person can halfway burst into tears; you had to be there). She had one of the dogs I knew from KS (and two new ones), a wonderful partner whom I hope to get to know much better in the near future, and ... a *motorcycle*! We both started riding after we knew one another. So we got together the next day for coffee and a short ride. Turns out they moved here just this year, and live within a few miles of me.
